The following is an excerpt from Stitches Magazine.
The roots of computerized embroidery are found in hand
embroideries as well as other forms of hand needlework. Producing
the hand stitched look of design required the embroiderers to
imagine that they were stitching by hand. A bean outline stitch
was used to simulate a hand-embroidered backstitch, or border
stitch, for the foliage and scalloped edge. The rose buds and
blooms consist of a textured fill in flowing angles, with shadow
stitching manually punched one stitch at a time along the petals.
The outline of the heart and parts of the petals were digitized
with a satin stitch, which mirrors the handmade satin stitch,
to uplift sections and show definition. The crocheted edge is
a form of ancient needlework, and its delicacy adds just the
right frame for the rose heart design. Rose heart design by Micah
